Sous Chef (full-time)

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Executive Chef, he/she is responsible for assisting in all phases of food production within Pearlstone’s OU Certified kitchen, including, but not limited to, production planning, inventory, ordering, and kitchen sanitation. The Sous Chef strives to achieve outstanding customer satisfaction by assisting the Executive Chef and helping to lead the team to create outstanding food experiences. He/she ensures quality and safety of food production, and manages the kitchen staff, including recruiting, training, development, and disciplinary action. He/she is also responsible for ensuring that all allergies and dietary restrictions are handled with extreme care, safety, and diligence.

This position requires an understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation regulations. The position also requires an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, or similar area of specialty, and at least 5 years of progressive culinary management experience. He/she must also have clear knowledge of menu and food costing, and display a commitment to, and a passion for, the advancement of our farm-to-table food service and plant-based cuisine. The Sous Chef must also possess a comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends, and desire to keep up to date on such.

This is an EXEMPT position with varied work hours. Pearlstone Center is open 365 days a year and the Sous Chef must be available mornings, evenings and weekends, to accommodate varying weekly service demands. He/she works in a normal hotel and commercial kitchen environment. Potential exposure to noise due to exhaust fans and equipment, cleaning chemicals, hot and cold temperatures and fast work pace due to meeting various deadlines, from multiple departments and groups.


College degree plus 5 years of similar experience
Proven a’ la carte and catering experience
ServSafe Certification
Working knowledge of inventory systems and food costing
Excellent Customer Service skills
Good oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and spreadsheets, and good typing skills a plus
Knowledge of Kosher laws, Jewish holidays and observances a plus
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work inside a potentially loud commercial kitchen environment, with physical hazards like sharp, hot, cold, and heavy equipment, are some physical requirements
Bilingual a plus

Weekend Chef (part-time)

Job Summary: The Weekend Chef is responsible for the quality preparation, presentation and serving of all food, in the supervision of prep cooks, and in the maintenance of a clean, sanitary, safe and efficient kitchen environment. The appropriate candidate must be able to work autonomously and with a sense of urgency. The Weekend Chef will be directly supervised by, and must be willing to support and take direction from, the Executive Chef.

The hours for this position will be 15-24 hours between the days of Friday and Sunday. However, should there be a special event during the week, the Weekend Chef may be called upon. In the absence of the Executive Chef due to vacation or extended illness, the Weekend Chef may be asked to assume appropriate areas of that responsibility on a temporary basis.



Able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Five years of hands-on cooking experience.
Knowledge of kosher observance and Jewish style cooking recommended.
Three years of experience preparing food in large quantities, 50-250+ people.
Food service Sanitation Certificate (Serve Safe) issued by or accepted by the state of Maryland.

Facility Associate

The Pearlstone Center, located in Reisterstown, is seeking a part-time/on-call Facility Associate to assist in the day to day operations at the Center. The two main areas of this position include food service and overall care and appearance of the facility including: meeting rooms, common areas, dining areas, kitchen, lodging rooms, bathrooms, and storage areas.
Candidate will be called upon to participate in catering services including table setting, serving, light kitchen prep and clean-up. Responsibilities will also entail housekeeping duties that include, but are not limited to, sanitizing and restocking bathrooms, vacuuming, window cleaning, and making beds.
Candidate must be extremely organized, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and possess the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional customer service is a must. All candidates must have reliable transportation as no public transportation is nearby Center.
This position does not include benefits. Work schedule is as need and flexible, but will not exceed eighteen hours per week. One year of similar work experience is helpful, but not required and willingness to learn about the kosher food service industry.
